Amsterdam Clubs
Amsterdam's nightlife and club scene are as good as they get. The party doesn't get started until around 11:00 and DJ's keep the music hot until the not-so-wee hours of the next day. There is a definite tilt toward the cutting edge; not much room here for "classic" or nostalgia. But if you are into Acid Jazz, Trance, Techno, Hardcore, etc. you will find a wide variety of places to choose from. Of course, Amsterdam's well-known open-minded posture on recreational drug use is on clear display as ravers bend their minds with mushrooms, Ecstasy, LSD and the latest designer drugs.
As you might imagine, the scene changes rapidly. The Leidseplein is the center of the nightlife with the Paradiso and Melkweg venues nearby. Check in any coffeeshop for UitLoper, the local guide to clubs and rave parties. One thing that does not change is Dance Valley. An annual summer show in the countryside featuring live acts and DJ's that play simultaneously in a dozen circus tents all day long. It is the ultimate partiers dream.
