Amsterdam gay community
Amsterdam is considered by many to be the Gay Capital of Europe. It is undoubtedly the gayest city in Europe, with something to offer everyone. 1998 the Amsterdam hosted the Gay Games, which seemed to both unify the gay community itself and strengthened its image in Amsterdam at large. Amsterdam offers almost 100
gay bars, discos, shops and cafes. The eclectic nature of the museums in the city, along with classic architecture, galleries, and 350 coffeeshops, all within walking distance from Central Station add to this city's attraction.
All of that - combined that with the unique spirit of tolerance and freedom of the Netherlands - explains why the Mayor proudly calls Amsterdam "the gay way to Europe". Homosexuality is legal in the Netherlands. Gays and lesbians even won the right to get legally married this year. The age of consent for gay sex is 16, but for prostitutes it's 18.
