Anne Frank House Amsterdam
If you didn't know what it was, this unassuming home would do nothing to attract your attention if it weren't for the dozens of people who stand in front, waiting for their turn to walk through a very special piece of history. This typical canal-house was the home of the Frank family for more than two years during World War II. During that time Anne, a teenaged girl, kept her famous diary giving the world a remarkable insight into her world of girlishness, fear, and determination. It is a moving experience to visit the rooms where she, her family and others were hidden during those horrific years. Little has changed in two generations, except for the measures which have been taken to protect the personal items which were left by Anne and her family.
The wait is invariably long, although an evening visit seems to allow you quickest access to the home. Whatever you do, do not miss this historic and touching place.
