Stedelijk Amsterdam
It should be pointed out at the outset the Municipal Museum - the Stedelijk - is undergoing major renovations and is currently closed. However, portions of the collections are on temporary display at various venues around the city. Knowing that many who visit these pages are considering a future visit to Amsterdam, we offer the following information about the collection itself.
The Stedelijk is the city's modern art museum, featuring works of a variety of contemporary artists including Chagall, Cezanne, Picasso, Monet, Mondrian, Appel, Corneille Warhol, Johns, Oldenburg, Liechtenstein, de Kooning, Pollock, Polke, Richter, and Baselitz. Obviously, the collection includes a wide variety of styles and schools. And the collection is not just limited to paintings. There are examples of sculpture, drawings, photography, graphic design, applied arts and new media.
So whether you are able to catch a temporary exhibit or are planning your trip after the museum reopens, make sure to take advantage of this fantastic collection for a nice respite from the old Dutch Masters.
